The DBDB Community: Stronger Together on Lantau Island

Andrew Tasker September 16, 2026

The DBDB crew is the largest outdoor fitness family on Lantau Island — and we train harder, stronger, and braver because of each other. Step onto the turf and meet the team.

THE TURF IS OURS. THE SKY IS OUR ROOF. THE CREW IS OUR SECRET.

Picture this: it's 0600. The sun's barely up over Lantau. There's a chain-link fence, a hillside thick with trees, and a patch of green turf that, for the next hour, belongs to us.

That's DBDB Training. And if you've never felt it, this is your invitation.

The whole crew — every age, every level, one turf.
The whole crew — every age, every level, one turf.

WE DON'T DO GYM WALLS

We do open sky. We do turf under our feet. We do the kind of session that builds grit a treadmill never could — because the wind's in your face, the ground is real, and there's nowhere to hide.

Every DBDB workout happens outdoors on the North Plaza pitches in Discovery Bay — sessions at 0600, 0700 and 0800 Monday to Friday, and 0700 on Saturday and Sunday. No mirrors. No queues. Just you, the elements, and a crew that showed up for the exact same reason: to get better today than yesterday.

Grit doesn't need a roof.
Grit doesn't need a roof.

Outdoor training builds something a gym never can. You learn to run when it's humid, to lift when the ground is uneven, to dig in when the sun comes up hot. The body adapts. The mind toughens. And every session becomes proof you can handle whatever the day throws at you — all before most people have had their coffee.

THE HYROX BUZZ

If you've felt the buzz of a HYROX session, you already know. If you haven't — come find out.

Our HYROX-specific sessions are built around the real race format: Wall Balls, Sled Pushes, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, SkiErg, Sandbag Lunges, Farmer's Carry, and that brutal final 1000m run. We train the movements. We train the transitions. We train the engine that keeps you moving when your legs are screaming.

One station down, eight to go.
One station down, eight to go.

But the magic isn't the programming. It's the people beside you. When someone's sled starts to feel impossible, the group roars them over the line. When the wall-ball count drifts, a training partner counts you back in. That's not coaching. That's community. And it's the reason our athletes step onto a HYROX start line feeling like they've already won the hardest part — they showed up, together.

YOU DON'T GET STRONGER ALONE

We've said it a thousand times and we'll keep saying it: you don't get stronger alone.

The member who joins nervous and unsure becomes the one giving the thumbs-up six weeks later. The first-timer who couldn't run a kilometre becomes the one pacing the group through the final sprint. Every transformation in this community started with someone beside them saying "come on, one more."

New friends, stronger together.
New friends, stronger together.

That's the DBDB difference. We're not a gym you walk into alone. We're a crew that notices when you're missing, celebrates when you're winning, and pulls you through when you're doubting. Beginners, seasoned athletes, weekend warriors and race-day racers — everyone has a place on this turf.

"The community isn't a nice extra — it's the engine of every result we've ever celebrated."

THE LARGEST CREW ON LANTAU

We're proud to say it: DBDB Training is the largest outdoor fitness community on Lantau Island and across the New Territories.

Nineteen reasons to show up tomorrow.
Nineteen reasons to show up tomorrow.

From Discovery Bay to Tung Chung, from Mui Wo to the city edge of the New Territories, our members span every age from 18 to 74, every fitness level from first-ever-session to HYROX elite, and every background you can imagine. We're men, women, expats, locals, parents, professionals, retirees and students — and on any given morning you'll find us all on the same field, sweating through the same session — 0600, 0700 or 0800 on a weekday, 0700 come the weekend — cheering for the same finish.

That scale matters. It means there's always someone at your pace, always a session that fits your week, and always a reason to keep coming back. But it never feels big — it feels like home.

The crew that lifts together, stays together.
The crew that lifts together, stays together.

AGE IS JUST A NUMBER — SO TRAIN LIKE IT

That 18-to-74 range isn't a footnote. It's the point. Some of our proudest results belong to the members who started latest in life — because here's the truth the fitness industry undersells: the body stays trainable at every age.

The science is blunt. Untrained adults lose 3–8% of their muscle mass per decade after 30, and the decline accelerates after 60. But that loss isn't destiny — it's a signal. Muscle, bone density, balance and cardio capacity all respond to consistent strength training in your 50s, 60s and 70s, often at rates that surprise the people doing it. The decade you think is behind you can be the decade you get back.

We don't just preach it — we podium on it. DBDB athlete Neil Jensen won the over-50s division at Hong Kong's inaugural HYROX race with a time of 1:21:35 and qualified for the HYROX World Championships in Nice. He got there by showing up in the dark, training through Hong Kong's humidity, and refusing to accept that 50-plus means slowing down.

And we took the message beyond the turf. Head coach Andrew Tasker and Neil joined the Senior Fitness Podcast to dig into training through your 40s, 50s and beyond — why recovery matters more, why consistency beats intensity, and why age really is just a number. It's the same philosophy that runs every DBDB session on the North Plaza pitches. Read the full story of the DBDB x Senior Fitness Podcast collaboration here.

WHY THE CREW MAKES YOU TRAIN HARDER

There's real science behind it. Train with a group and you work harder. You show up more often. You push through the reps you'd have quit on alone. And you recover better, because you're not carrying the load in isolation.

Train hard. Lift heavy. Cheer loud.
Train hard. Lift heavy. Cheer loud.

We see it every week. Members who joined to "try it once" are now hitting personal bests they never imagined. Couples who started training together are racing HYROX together. Parents who came for their kids are out-lifting people half their age.

Four reasons DBDB works.
Four reasons DBDB works.

The community isn't a nice extra — it's the engine of every result we've ever celebrated.

COME FIND YOUR PLACE

If you've read this far, there's a reason. Maybe you're curious. Maybe you're ready. Either way — there's a spot on the turf with your name on it.

There's always room for one more.
There's always room for one more.

You don't need to be fit to start. You don't need to know anyone. You don't need the right gear or the right background. You just need to show up — 0600, 0700 or 0800 Monday to Friday, or 0700 on the weekend — and we'll take care of the rest.
